I stared at the bottom of the glass in my hand and sighed. It had been my gazillionth sigh in the past hour. It had been three weeks, and Evans still wasn't home. Texas wasn't that far away now, was it? I glanced at my phone lying next to the edge of the bed, then at the golden-brown liquid swirling at the bottom of my glass. I sighed again. It was no shame that I missed him. If he had been here, there wouldn’t have been any need to indulge in any of this damn whiskey. I bet he would scold me if he found me here, downing my second half-glass. He would go on about how it was bad for my health, speaking in all the medical mumbo-jumbo I loved so much. Ultimately, I would lose sight of the part where he reprimanded me and become enamored with how his lips curled as he spoke. But he wasn't here. Another sigh. Another sip.
