Chapter 24 It's Been a Long Time
"Isn't this what friends are for?" Sean clapped her on the shoulder. "We're good friends after all. We can go for a few races once you're better."
"Since you're alright, you should rest well," Christopher said as he started to leave.
"Christopher," Dorothy called after him. "Will Adeline get mad at you again for coming here so late at night?"
Christopher's tone was emotionless as he glanced at her. "You're afraid that she'll be angry?"
Picking up on his annoyance, Dorothy smiled at Sean. "We're all the best of friends, aren't we? I was just worried that there might be conflict between you and Adeline."
Sean said, "It's alright, Christopher. You can go home. I'll stay with Dorothy."
Christopher just made a noise of acknowledgment and didn't say another word, striding out of the ward.
Dorothy looked at his retreating form that held not even a shred of hesitancy. Her heart ached.
