Maeve forced herself to stay calm, but her hands wouldn't stop trembling.
"Mavy, what's wrong?" Zion frowned. He grabbed Maeve's hand in an attempt to steady her.
Maeve's breaths were shallow and erratic as her anxiety radiated off her like heat.
"Quick… Call the Palmer family! Call them now!" Her words stumbled out as if they could barely escape her lips.
Charlie and Lyra exchanged a wary glance as both sensed something was seriously wrong with Maeve.
"Alright, I'll call them now," Zion said as he reached for his phone.
But before he could even dial, Maeve snatched it from his hands.
"I'll do it!" she said.
Lyra noticed something was off with Maeve, so she rested a hand gently on Maeve's back. "Mavy, take a deep breath. What's going on? Talk to us. We can figure it out together."
"It's too late…" Maeve's voice wavered.
Her face was drained of color as the call failed to connect. She tried again. And again. Each time, the line was busy.
