Chapter 14
After Yvonne had packed her things and returned to the hospital, she took out the information documents that Sandra had given her and began reading through them carefully. The show premise seemed like a mashup between well-known dating shows “Taken Out” and “The Bachelor”.
Twenty-five women of various backgrounds and occupations would be standing on the stage, their faces disguised behind masks. They would first describe and talk about their hobbies, personalities, beliefs, and views on love and marriage before the male guest would make his first call to the women.
If the female guest was interested in the man, she would have the opportunity to ask him three questions. If she was satisfied with his answers, she could take off her mask and proceed to the next stage. Conversely, she would not have to take off her disguise if she were not satisfied.
Yvonne finally understood why Sandra had said that this was easy money. She was just there for the show and would not have to take her mask since she was not interested in the male guests.
It seemed almost criminal to not take up such a good offer. She picked up the phone and called Sandra. “I’ve read through the information.”
“What do you think? Easy money, right?”
“Looks good!”
“It doesn’t just look good. It is good. You’d be a fool not to earn this money. Go work on the first episode. If it blows up, you’ll be able to earn even more money.” Sandra had the utmost confidence in herself. “I’m telling you now, I’ve gotten some of the most well-known companies to be our sponsors. Also, Mr. Quimby has agreed to be a sponsor. You’ve worked under him for years, and you should know the kind of person he is by now. Everything he sponsors gains popularity eventually.”
That was true. Zachary had a great eye for spotting things that would rake in huge profits. However, Yvonne hesitated slightly after hearing that Zachary was a sponsor for the show. Sandra could naturally read her mind. “Don’t worry. Mr. Quimby wouldn’t have time to watch the show.”
Sandra was right. It was a golden opportunity, and she was dirt poor now. Why would anyone pass up such a great opportunity? She gritted her teeth and said, “Sandra, I’ll take up your offer!”
“That's the spirit.” Sandra had never expected her to accept the offer so easily. “Come by tomorrow and sign the contract.”
It was a deal. Yvonne hurried over to the station the next morning to sign the contract. She had to record twenty episodes of the reality show in one go, and her calculations showed her she would earn a large sum if nothing goes wrong. By the time it rolled around, she would have enough money to pay for her uncle’s hospitalization. However, she will still need to look for a kidney donor.
The doctors told her that her uncle was in critical condition, and they would need to look for a donor as soon as possible. However, she didn’t have any connections. Where could she find a donor?
Yvonne was deep in thought when she returned to the hospital and did not expect to meet Zachary at the entrance. Zachary’s eyes lit up when he saw her.
“Yvonne, what are you doing here? Are you sick?”
“It is none of your business.”
“How is it none of my business? You’re my assistant. It’s only right for a boss to care for their assistant. Come, where does it hurt? I’ll accompany you to the doctors.”
As he spoke, he reached out to grab Yvonne’s hand. Yvonne dodged away from him. “What are you doing by trying to touch me?”
“I’m just trying to help you, okay? Be still!”
Yvonne was angry when she saw how unashamed he was. “I’m telling you now, Zachary Quimby. I’ve already resigned. Don’t blame me for what I’ll do if you continue harassing me!”
“What are you going to do?”
“I'll expose how you toy with women. President Quimby, you might not care, but Centurion Group would most definitely care. When that happens…”
Upon hearing that, the expression on Zachary’s face changed drastically. Yvonne pushed him away and quickly ran into the hospital.
Zachary’s eyes narrowed as he left standing there. His eyes burned with anger. As he opened his car door, got in, and started the car, he called Felix. “Go find out what Yvonne Yates is doing in the hospital. The quicker, the better!”
Felix was an efficient man, and he managed to find out the reasons within a couple of hours. Yvonne’s uncle, Wesley Yates, was awaiting a kidney transplant in the hospital. Zachary frowned and called Yvonne on his phone.
She hung up on him, but he continued calling her. Around the tenth time, Yvonne finally answered and asked in a cold voice, “Zachary Quimby, what the hell do you want from me?”
“Meet me at Hyatt Hotels in half an hour. If not…”
“Are you mad?” Yvonne interrupted exasperatedly.
“You go ahead and act all high and mighty if you don’t want a kidney donor for your uncle!”
That one sentence was enough to soften Yvonne. “Zachary Quimby, do you truly have a kidney donor?”
“What do you think? I’m giving you thirty minutes. Hurry up!” He hung up with a click.
