"Mr. Fitzgerald." John walked to the car and greeted Jerry.
Jerry's mentees had parked the car. They stood beside John and waited for Jerry to alight.
John couldn't help but think of Jerry as a show-off. Mark, despite his old age, never put on any airs. If anything, Mark came across as a kind, loving grandpa.
When Jerry emerged from the car, his young age made John wonder if he was the exorcist in question.

When Jerry got out, he instructed his mentees to carry the tools for exorcism—ritual objects, candles, and oils—out of the car.
John looked relieved when he saw the array of tools Jerry brought with him, which boosted Jerry's credibility.
In comparison, Mark had only brought a gray bag with a few amulets. John had to admit the amulets were rather useful; throwing an amulet at the ghost effectively scared it off, but not enough to exorcise it.
