Chapter Forty-One - Willow
I listened to Chase’s heartbeat as I stared up at his handsome face. His being with me made everything less scary.
But it didn’t change the fact Dr. Henry pulled his chair toward me and his voice made my heart leap in my chest. “Close your eyes, Willow. We’ll get started.”
I closed my eyes and listened to the traffic on the streets before.
A horn.
A car door slammed.
A baby cried from the sidewalk.
“Calm yourself,” Dr. Henry said, lightly tapping my hand. “Just breathe. Listen to Chase’s heartbeat.”
I attempted to push the noises away and listened for Chase again. He instantly calmed me. His wolf was a calming presence. One that made me feel grounded and safe. Chase squeezed my hand, and I finally felt myself rest on his lap.
“There you go,” Dr. Henry said. “Now, I want you to imagine a door. The door.”
I knew what door he was talking about before he even mentioned it. I’d used it as a shield for so many years. It shielded me from the truth.
