Chapter 5: The Poisoned Crown
The forest howled.
Lucien crashed through the trees, branches snapping against his skin, leaving jagged cuts along his arms and chest. His body screamed for rest, but he ignored it, the bond's searing pain driving him forward. Every step felt like knives piercing his ribs, each breath sharper than the last.

Serena was out there, and the bond was fading. Fading fast.

“Serena,” he rasped, voice shredded from screaming her name. “Serena, please...”
The forest didn’t answer.
But something else did.
A figure emerged from the shadows, slow and deliberate — Evelyn.
Lucien’s heart lurched, fury and exhaustion colliding like a storm. “What are you doing here?” he growled, his voice laced with venom.
