Elias spoke, his voice husky. ‘You can’t come on the mission this time.’
Callie nodded. ‘I know, and I won’t pester you to change your mind. Just promise me one thing, Elias. Promise that you’ll return safely. I don’t want you getting hurt.’
Elias held Callie’s hand, his gaze tender. ‘Your concern means the world to me. I’ll come back just the way I am now.’
Callie blinked back tears.
