CHAPTER NINETY EIGHT – DUCK DAY?
"Well, what do we have here?" Jasmine mused as they approached the brightly-decorated streets packed with people in costume and children running around gleefully.
Claire stuck her head out the window, sniffing at the mouthwatering scents of food and funnel cakes wafting through the warm night air. "It smells like a festival! Oh, we have to check this out."
They found a spot to park and wandered into the heart of the festivities. Everywhere they looked, there were colorful streamers, booths advertising quirky games and fried delicacies, and the unmistakable sights and sounds of a full-blown town celebration.
"Excuse me, miss!" Jasmine tugged on the sleeve of a passing woman wearing a bright yellow shirt and webbed feet slippers. "What's this festival for?"
"Why, it's Duck Day, of course!" the woman quacked proudly. "An annual tradition here in Dogwood Hollow celebrating our most famous local critters."
