CHAPTER SIX HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX – THE BALLROOM
As Jasmine made her way to the terrace, she caught Marco's eye across the room. He gave her an almost imperceptible nod, silently communicating that he had her back.
The cool night air was a welcome relief from the stuffy ballroom. Jasmine approached the railing, standing a few feet away from Senator Thompson, who was alone and nursing a glass of scotch.
"Beautiful night, isn't it?" she said, her voice carrying just enough to catch his attention.
The senator turned, his eyes appraising Jasmine. "Indeed it is, Miss...?"
"Cesaro," Jasmine supplied, extending her hand. "Jasmine Cesaro. And you must be Senator Thompson. I've heard so much about your work."
Thompson shook her hand, a practiced politician's smile on his face. "All good things, I hope. Are you interested in politics, Mrs. Cesaro?"
Jasmine laughed lightly. "Oh, I try to stay informed. Your recent push for increased border security has certainly caught my attention. It must be quite a challenge, balancing national securit
