Jasmine took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Marco, I'm your wife. We've been through so much together. Don't you remember any of that?"
"Of course I do," Marco said softly. "More and more every day. But Jasmine, Zaya's been a good friend to both of us. She's just trying to help."
"Is she?" Jasmine challenged. "Or is she trying to come between us?"
Marco's face hardened. "That's not fair, Jasmine. Zaya has been nothing but kind and supportive."
"To you, maybe," Jasmine muttered.
Marco sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Look, I'm sorry if I've been neglecting you. I'll try to spend more time with you, okay? But please, don't ask me to cut Zaya out of my life. She's important to me too."
Jasmine felt her heart crack a little at his words. "More important than me?"
"That's not what I said," Marco replied, frustration creeping into his voice. "Why are you making this so difficult?"
