CHAPTER FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SIX – CONFIDING IN HER NEW FRIEND
As Jasmine left the bakery, the cool evening air a welcome relief after the heat of the ovens, she felt a sense of belonging she hadn't experienced in a long time. Yes, she was still in hiding. Yes, the dangers of her past were still out there. But here, in this little bakery with its intoxicating scents and warm-hearted people, she had found a small piece of home.
Lola fell into step beside her as they walked down the street. "So, neighbor," she said cheerfully, "fancy grabbing a drink to celebrate surviving your first day?"
Jasmine hesitated for a moment, old instincts urging caution. But as she looked at Lola's open, friendly face, she made a decision. She couldn't live in fear forever. Part of starting a new life was allowing herself to form new connections, to trust again.
