"What about the Bistro?" she asked. "If the Morettis know I'm involved, won't they come after us here?"
Don Cesaro shook his head. "They won't risk an open attack. It would draw too much attention. But we'll increase security, just in case. Marco will stay here with you for the time being."
Marco stepped forward, placing a hand on Jasmine's shoulder. "We'll keep you safe," he promised.
Don Cesaro's phone buzzed. He glanced at it, his expression darkening. "I need to go. Marco, walk me out. Jasmine, remember what I said. Stay here, stay safe."
As Don Cesaro and Marco left, Jasmine sank into her chair. The adrenaline that had been keeping her going was starting to wear off, leaving her feeling drained and vulnerable.
A soft knock on the door roused her from her thoughts. It was Lisa, looking concerned.
"Ms. Delacroix? Is everything okay? There are some... intimidating men out front asking to speak with you."
