CHAPTER THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONE – CHEF GRUDGE
Jasmine hurried through the kitchen doors of Cesaro's Bistro, her heels clicking against the polished tiles. The sound was immediately drowned out by a cacophony of raised voices and clanging pots. She stopped short, taking in the chaotic scene before her.
"You call this a proper mise en place? My grandmother could do better with her eyes closed!" Antonio, the head chef, bellowed, his face red with anger.
Maria, the sous-chef, stood her ground, arms crossed. "Maybe if you gave clear instructions instead of barking orders, we wouldn't have this problem!"
The rest of the kitchen staff were divided, some clustering behind Antonio, others behind Maria. Jasmine took a deep breath and stepped forward.
"Everyone, please!" she called out, raising her hands. "What's going on here?"
The shouting subsided, but the tension in the air remained palpable. Antonio turned to Jasmine, gesturing wildly with a wooden spoon.
"Ms. Delacroix, I cannot work under these conditions. This... this amateur,"
