CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY ONE – THE STAKEOUT
For several long moments, the only sounds were her ragged breaths intermingling with Gordon's hushed assurances against the pandemonium unfolding around them.
Officers shouted, the wail of sirens pierced the night, but none of it mattered - only this moment of respite sheltered by the haven of Gordon's arms and the promise there would be no more running.
"How did you..." Jasmine managed to swallow past the thick lump in her throat, voice jagged and raw. "How did you know?"
Gordon pulled back fractionally, his expression a tumultuous storm of protective fury and shaken relief as he searched her face with burning intensity.
"Your informant turned on you," he growled, sending a fresh tremor of trepidation ricocheting down Jasmine's spine. "He sold you out to Chandler's goons the second he left that diner. Luckily, I didn't fully trust that snake either."
