Chapter 7
What Mr. Allen said was like thunder, shocking Harry.
His hands shook as he took out the report. He read it from beginning to end, and the words “not pregnant” were like a loud slap on his cheek.
He was not even sure if he felt angry about being deceived or disappointed.
He would never have thought Lucy would dare tell such a lie!
“How are you going to explain this?!” He slammed the report on her face and questioned her in a rage.
Lucy’s face was completely pale. She grabbed the hem of his pants in a panic and cried. “Let me explain, Harry. It’s not what it looks like–”
Ava was shocked. She yelled at Isla while pointing at her when she snapped out of it. “Dad, sis must’ve bribed Mr. Allen! Did you forget? You went to the hospital with mom, and it was Mr. Allen who examined her. He said that she was pregnant.”
Ava secretly glared at Mr. Allen in a threatening manner at an angle that Harry could not see.
Mr. Allen looked down in shame. “I admit that I took Ms. Owen’s money to fake the report. If Ms. Isla hadn’t come to me, the lie might have gone on forever.”
He took a card out of his pocket as he spoke and handed it to Ava. “This is the $70,000 you gave me. Take it back.”
Ava looked at the card, her face pale. “Mr. Allen, don’t spew nonsense, please. When did I pay you? Did someone blackmail you?”
Seeing that she refused to admit it, he said directly, “To prove the truth, all Ms. Owen has got to do is have a check-up at the hospital. The truth will come out then.”
Ava was relieved when she heard that.
Their plan for tonight was foolproof. As soon as they got to the hospital, the doctors there would prove that her mother’s miscarriage was real. That would clear any suspicions that she had faked her pregnancy.
“No need for that. We’ll find out when I check her pulse.” A clear male voice spoke.
Isla was stunned to see who it was when she followed the voice.
Scott Fletcher?
Why was he here? Did that mean that Noah was here too?
She quickly lifted her head to look around. However, she did not see his familiar face. She could not help being disappointed.
“Stop looking, he’s not here.” Scott crushed her very last hope.
She looked down and forced a smile.
That was right. What had she expected? It was impossible that he would come to such a party.
However, she did not notice that Scott was looking at a corner upstairs when he said that.
“It’s been a while, Mr. Bennett.” He greeted him while smiling. “Are you mad that I came uninvited?”
He was the Fletchers’ heir. Even if Harry was really upset, he would not show it.
“Haha, how could I be?” Harry patted his shoulder perfunctorily.
Scoff had received an invitation from the Bennetts a week ago. It was just that he’d had no interest in going to an illegitimate daughter’s birthday party.
If Noah had not asked him to come, he wouldn’t have.
“You know that I’ve been studying medicine since I was young. Although I’m not successful, I can definitely find out if she’s pregnant or not.”
Harry nodded stiffly. “I’m sorry to trouble you.”
“It’s no trouble at all. I’m just doing you a favor.” Scoff glanced at Isla in a cryptic manner and went to check Lucy’s pulse.
She retracted her hand, but Harry stared at her. She could only extend her hand again.
“Her pulse is calm and strong. She’s not pregnant.”
Scott’s casual comment directly proved that Lucy had faked her pregnancy.
She fell to the ground while countless mockery erupted around her.
“I can’t believe she’s shameless enough to be faking a pregnancy! She even put up a whole act. Disgusting.”
“She’s a mistress after all. What wouldn’t she do?”
“It’s such a pity that she almost ruined Ms. Isla’s reputation. She’s evil.”
The tables had turned. The people who had been criticizing Isla were criticizing Lucy and Ava now.
Ava clenched her fists. She suddenly lost control and shouted at Isla. “Even if the pregnancy is fake, you did push my mom!”
Isla smirked and scoffed. “Show the surveillance.”
It was a blind spot. Ava had come earlier to confirm that, so she nodded when she heard what Isla said.
The hotel manager instantly made a call.
In the VIP room upstairs, Mr. Wood from the hotel carefully glanced at the man sitting on the couch.
The man leaned on the leather couch under the warm light. His obsidian eyes stared at the thin figure on the big screen. One could not tell what he was feeling based on his face.
Mr. Wood hung up the phone and walked to the couch before saying respectfully, “Mr. Payne, Ms. Isla is asking to look at the hotel surveillance. What do you think?”
“Sure,” Noah responded flatly.
“Please project this onto the ballroom screen, Mr. Wood.” His assistant, Andrew Mills, who was standing aside, handed him a flash drive.
Mr. Wood took it quickly and went to do what he’d said.
A minute later, a surveillance clip was played on the ballroom screen.
“Your mom died too soon…
“She died a young b*tch anyway… Your father didn’t like her at all…”
Lucy’s voice echoed throughout the entire ballroom.
Harry looked at her in shock. He could not believe this woman, who was soft and sensible in front of him, had said such mean, devilish things to Isla.
Something inside of him started collapsing.
However, the clip was still playing. The clear image showed that Isla and Lucy had not touched at all, and the latter had rolled down the stairs by herself.
Since she had been exposed, she dared not pretend anymore. She quickly got off the ground and pulled on Harry’s arm as she begged. “It’s not like that, Harry. Let me explain.”
He slapped her. “What’s there to explain, you evil woman?!”
Lucy cried incoherently. “Please believe me, Harry. The clip must be fake. It was taken from the blind spot of the camera. It’s impossible that the camera got us!”
Isla said with a cryptic smile, “So you knew it was a blind spot and tried to frame me, right?”
Lucy instantly realized that she had misspoken and began to throw a tantrum. “Isla, how could you make a fake clip just to clear your name? The maid saw you push me. How–”
“I’m sorry, sir. It was greedy of me to take madam’s money and say that Ms. Isla pushed her. In reality, she knew that she could no longer hide the fact that she had been faking her pregnancy. That’s why she did this.” The maid, who had been Lucy’s witness, suddenly turned the tables on her.
