I could tell Evelyn was passive-aggressive, but I hadn't done anything.
If she hadn't insisted on leaving first, Jack wouldn't have come back for me. They could've easily waited for Emma to leave and taken me with them.
It was clear she wanted to give me a hard time. Maybe rivalries like ours naturally bred resentment. It'd make her day a little brighter if she could get under my skin.
But I wasn't giving her the satisfaction.
"Ms. Laurence, you should head upstairs and get some rest," I said plainly.
The dismissal couldn't have been more obvious. If she had any sense, she'd take the hint. Jack had already made it clear he wasn't staying at the apartment. She knew what that meant.
Instead, she leaned heavily against the seat, crossing her arms with a defiant smirk.
"Eva—Rinatta, whatever you want to call yourself—you must know you and Jack are impossible. Why are you clinging to him?"
I sighed, my tone calm but firm. "I'm not clinging to him."
