After a while, Julien called. Helen answered absentmindedly, her thoughts consumed by what Josie had said—claiming he wasn't serious about her.

"Yes, I am," Helen replied in a lighthearted tone. "What about you?"
"Noisy. Josie's kid is running wild."
"How old is Josie's child?"
"Not quite two. Still very young."
"Is it a daughter?"
"Yes. How did you know?"
"Just a hunch," Helen answered.
Julien chuckled. "Your hunch is spot on."
After a brief pause, she asked, "How's your relationship with Josie?"
"It's alright."
"Can I ask you another question?"
"Go ahead."
