"I'm not asleep yet," Shelmaine replied, stifling a yawn. She was clearly tired.
"Go ahead and rest. Don't wait for me."
"Mm."
When Samuel came out of the shower, his damp hair was swept back, exposing his sharp, mature features. Dressed in a black pajama set, he entered the room. The soft, warm glow of an orange bedside lamp lit the space. Tammy was sleeping on the inside of the bed, while Shelmaine was scrolling on her phone. He lay down and reached to embrace her, but she didn't respond.
"Honey, has Tammy been behaving well these past few days?"
"Mm," she replied briefly, her eyes still fixed on her phone.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Samuel noticed her unusually cold demeanor and studied her expression.
Shelmaine didn't mince words. "Is Ms. Kaiser better now? Doesn't need you to keep her company anymore?"
Samuel froze and asked, "You've found out about that?"
