Shelmaine couldn't find the words. "Shelly, just one last chance, please. I'm begging you, just give me a chance…" Shelmaine was unable to control her emotions any longer. Her eyes turned red, and her vision blurred with tears, making her unable to see his expression. She reached up to cover her eyes, turning her face away so he couldn't see it. She couldn't control herself again—it was humiliating. Samuel felt her pain. He got up and sat down, lifting her and placing her on his lap, letting her rest her face against his shoulder so she could cry more comfortably. He gently patted her back and spoke gently. "Shelly, I wasn't good to you before. I was horrible. I didn't take care of you." She hadn't cried during the divorce, nor when she learned that he had someone else in his heart. She didn't even cry when his family made her life difficult. She had only cried when she lost her child. Yet, here she was, crying her heart out for some reason. She was heartbroken and devastated.
