CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED TWELVE - When Allies Turn Foes
"Come in," she called.
Her assistant, Rachel, poked her head in. "Ms. Aniston? There's a call for you on line two. It's Mr. Noble."
Mara's heart skipped a beat. Cassius rarely called her at work unless it was important. "Thanks, Rachel. I'll take it."
She picked up the phone, trying to keep the worry out of her voice. "Cassius? Is everything okay?"
"Mara," his voice was tense. "We need to talk. Can you come to my office? Now?"
"Of course. I'm on my way."
As Mara made her way to Cassius's office, her mind raced. What could be so urgent? Had he noticed the same pattern of disruptions she had?
Cassius's secretary waved her in without a word. When Mara entered the office, she found Cassius standing by the window, his back to her.
"Cassius?" she said softly.
He turned, and the look on his face made her blood run cold. "Mara," he said, his voice tight with barely controlled anger. "We have a problem."
"What's going on?" she asked, her heart pounding.
