"Give it a try."
The four words hung in the air, steady and firm.
Cynthia froze, utterly baffled.
She wondered if she misheard. Or did she really hear it right? Did Marvin just suggest trying to date? Could dating even be treated like an experiment?
When Marvin was met with silence, a faint unease crept over him. He broke it with an explanation.
"Cynthia, I know this might seem abrupt, but I'm single, and you're single. I happen to need a girlfriend, and your character and personality are perfectly compatible with mine. So, why don't we give it a try? Or do you think I don't meet your standards as a boyfriend?"
"No, no!" Cynthia exclaimed, her mind racing. There was nothing wrong with him. In fact, he was too perfect, and that was what left her reeling.
"Since that's not the case…" Marvin said, his tone as calm and assured as ever, "...then it's settled. From now on, I look forward to our relationship together."
"W-Wait, Mr. Gibson—no! That's not what I meant—" Cynthia stammere
