Kieran was holding his breath.
‘What does it look like?’ I asked. ‘A pea?’
‘Yes, and it’s a beautiful little pea.’ His voice was filled with amazement and awe.
I laughed. ‘What can be so beautiful about a pea?’
‘Because it’s mine.’
The radiologist turned to me. ‘You can get up now. Everything’s fine with the baby. Just remember to schedule regular check-ups.’
She reassured me again as I was leaving. ‘Don’t worry. You are going to be fine with such a supportive husband.’
I just smiled at her.
Kieran wasn’t even my boyfriend.
‘Thanks,’ he said and led me out the door.
Fitz was waiting for us in the hallway outside.
Dressed in a white lab coat, looked more mature than the first time we met.
His glasses gave him a serious, academic look.
But his behaviour shattered that illusion.
He slow-clapped when he saw me and then gave me a thumbs-up.
‘Snatching the groom from the altar. You’ve got balls.’
‘Fuck off.’ Kieran elbowed him.
