The Ego And The Id
Cara took off her Dôen Carmel jacket. ‘Move your ass.’
I scooted over to make room for her.
She climbed into bed with me and threw an arm around my shoulder.
I rested my cheek on her ample bosom.
‘You had a really close shave this time, did you know that?’ She stroked my hair. ‘I almost couldn’t get to you in time. Luckily, Kieran was there.’
‘Speaking of, why is that man here? I thought you didn’t like him.’
I didn’t want to use Kieran’s name.
‘That man saved your life.’ Cara patted me like she was burping a baby. ‘I didn’t like him. Still don’t. But if it weren’t for him, you’d be in the morgue by now.’
I waited for her to tell me what happened.
‘I knew something was wrong when you stopped talking. The call was still connected, but I couldn’t get a response from you. So I jumped into the first taxi I could find and rushed to your house. Then I got stumped. The front door was locked. I didn’t have a key.’
‘So how did you get the door open? Did you kick it down like a badass She-Hulk?’
