Chapter 02
NEON's perspective
My chest was heavy from my pent-up anger, and the veins on my forehead were visible. My wolf Jax had been restless since the mating ritual started.
It had kept us on the edge. Jax was nervous, yet I had no idea what it was about. He was never the one to show any emotions. He was showing emotions that I couldn’t decipher, and it was starting to agitate me.
The mating ritual had been going on in the park for some hours now, and I had felt pent-up more than usual.
Something about today felt strange.
‘It's mate! I have a feeling she’s close. I have never felt this way before. She’s close. Mate is here.’ Jax purred.
‘What did you just say? Mate!’
How was that possible?
I had been looking for my mate for the past ten years, yet got no clue to her.
What the fuck was Jax talking about, that mate was here?
I was about to sniff the air like a hound dog in the park when my Beta Silas came to me and tapped me over the shoulders.
“Alpha, someone just walked into the park. I had this strange feeling when she entered, I want...”
I shoved my Beta aside when my wolf got the scent.
He was panting in my head.
The scent was becoming so strong, inflicting our senses to go high on alert and losing control.
Could what Jax said be true?
Why couldn’t I spot her?
I had so many questions.
I couldn’t speak.
I want to see her now.
“Where is she?” I yelled at Silas. He was startled at the sound of my voice.
I couldn’t control myself as my wolf surged forward. As my eyes turned red, I growled in his face. “Where is mate?”
Silas lowered his eyes and bowed, submitting to my wolf.
I grabbed him by the neck and held him above the ground, my anger coming in waves. My wolf was in control of my body, and it made it a bit difficult for me to take control back.
We’d searched everywhere for a mate since we turned eighteen. We traveled around because of that.
All we wanted was to find her and rule as Alpha and Luna.
But years passed, I'd never found her and slowly slipped into the fact that I was not gonna have my mate.
We gave up and stopped searching for her. I decided to make Diana a permanent Luna in the pack and take her as my chosen mate after the mating ritual.
But now we could sense our mate. She was right here!
Taking control back from my wolf, I realized that Silas was thrashing with my hold a
While releasing him, I cursed my wolf for not being able to keep his anger in check.
“She’s there,” Silas pointed in the direction where a petite lady stood with a plate in her hands, glancing around the park.
I froze when her eyes met with mine just for a brief moment.
My mind was in a complete freak-out, I was nervous. I, Alpha Neon, had never felt nervous.
My wolf and I had never thought this day would come when we would find our mate.
It made me bitter for years that I couldn’t find my soulmate when others found theirs.
After organizing mating rituals one year after another, I was still mateless.
Because of this, I had to rule the pack with an iron fist and a cold heart.
Having no mate made it was easier for me to do reckless things, because there was no one to get hurt except me.
“Let’s go,” I said to Silas and started to walk down to mate.
I stood behind her when I got close. The smells of vanilla and roses on her body were intoxicating.
‘She’s my mate.’ Jax spat out in dominance.
‘I can’t believe she’s here. She came to find me.’ My hands were starting to sweat as I replied to my wolf.
“Is that enough? You can take some more.” I muttered. She turned and stared at me.
Her big round cinnamon eyes looked so beautiful. She was probably in her early twenties.
I was towering over her, and I wanted to have her body squeezed against mine.
I want her.
All of her.
But something was off with her. Jax and I couldn’t feel her wolf!
Even after she replied to me in her sweet angelic voice that got me demanding to hear more. But she left my side in a hurry as if I scared her.
It seemed that she had no idea who I was to her.
“It’s strange. Alpha?” Silas whispered behind me. I watched her having her food in a corner, my eyes not leaving her face for a moment.
I was scared, too. It felt that she could disappear before my eyes any time.
‘She has no wolf.’ Jax confirmed my thoughts.
If she had no wolf, it meant that my mate was human.
Humans were considered weak, and our pack was against having humans with us. Humans were never allowed in the pack. This tradition had lasted so for hundreds of years.
I got a mate and she was human. She wouldn't be accepted by the pack as Luna.
What a pathetic joke!
I hated it that she was not my species. Why was my mate not a wolf?
My gaze darted to her when I spotted her leaving the park in haste.
“Get her, Silas,” I growled.
He bowed and ran out of the park at my order.
‘We won’t let her leave us.’ Jax snarled.
‘She’s human.’ I gritted my teeth. My eyes had never been off her until she left in such a hurry.
She had no idea she was at a mating ritual with wolves. Clenching my jaw, I marched out of the park after her.
After my fucking mate!
