Emily cried her heart out, making it seem like I was the wicked woman tearing apart a loving couple.
But she seemed to forget that it wasn't me who was refusing to leave—it was Calvin who wouldn't sign the divorce papers.
Still, I held back any sharp retorts; with so many people watching, I couldn't afford to embarrass the Pierce family.
Calvin's eyes landed on my hand, and instinctively, I used my right hand to cover it.
Emily was sharp; if she hadn't pointed it out, I might have forgotten about selling the ring. But her reminder brought it to everyone's attention.
"Mrs. Pierce really isn't wearing her wedding ring. Hasn't it been a while since she last did? I noticed it too during a meeting. I thought maybe the diamond was too big and uncomfortable."
"I heard Summer wanted a divorce ages ago. Could that be true?"
"Calvin would never refuse a divorce, right? Come on, she must be the one clinging on."
Calvin shot a deadly glare around the room, silencing everyone.
