Mira's scent was fading from the covers, Daevishk thought, and only clung in ghosts to the clothes in the storage unit. Soon, it would be lost to all but his memory of her.
But his memory was impeccable. The expression in her eyes in that last glance back at him before she had stepped into nothingness, haunted him. He had done that to her, he told himself, in his greed, in his desire, he had done that, he had made it so that a plunge twenty-three storeys to the ground was preferable to returning to his arms.
The turning point had been bringing Vonyx into the den. Before that, it had been perfect. Mira had adored him, she had called him handsome in his uniform, he remembered, his heart twisting, and he had cautioned her about the danger of Rikash.
