I could remember watching romantic comedies with old girlfriends as a late teenager and even as a young adult in my twenties, thinking how absurd it was that a man or woman would give up their entire life—whether that be their well-paying job, their dreams, or their life of solitude—for that special someone. To me, it was a state of insanity.
