CHAPTER 84: ACCUSING THE SAINT

I broke the kiss, breathing heavily as I watched Julia's eyes widen. We were both breathless. Her face was a mixture of surprise and confusion.
"Damian, are you okay?" she asked, reaching for my hand but then pulling back.
I sat limply on the cushion, the ice pack working wonders on my hand. "You know, I think I need to take things slow with you."
Her expression narrowed, and she held my good arm. "What do you mean, Damian?"
"I'm just getting over a divorce. I don't want to start another relationship yet. It feels like I'm treating you like a rebound."
"A rebound?" She chuckled. "Am I?"
"No, of course not," I answered. "Do you think I'd fight four guys for you if you were just a rebound?"
"Well, technically, you didn't fight them for me. You were set up," Julia shrugged.
I laughed at her statement because it was true. If it had been anyone else, I would still have shown up.
We fell silent for a while. I didn't know what to say, and I couldn't decipher her silence eithe
