CHAPTER 55: IN THE STREETS
DAMIAN
Flashback
It was raining heavily that day. Our footsteps were soundless over the rain, and I thanked God for that. My beat increased as we approached the estate, and my hands trembled. I was scared.
This was my first outing since Zed took me in. I wasn't Damian Bennet anymore. That boy had died in a car crash, or so everyone thought. I was now Damian Callaghan. The privileged life I had was now gone. I was now a member of one of the notorious gangs in the area.
"Your hands are shaking, Damian," one of the older men, Show, slid beside me as we approached the gate. The house had a brick-walled fence, just like my father's. I thought the wall could deter us, but I saw the men bringing out climbing ropes, and my heart skipped.
"Just don't do anything stupid or out of excitement." Show cautioned, handing me a climbing rope.
I nodded. A lump had already formed in my throat, so I couldn't say much. "I won't."
"Good," Show nodded, smiling. He had a single crooked tooth, and I won
