CHAPTER 50: CONFLICTED CONNECTION

My heart was racing as I knocked on Charles's door. I didn't know what his reaction might have been that morning. I had annoyed him, and I saw it. I had to clear everything with him. He opened the door, his eyes sparkling from the previous fight. He was my companion, and I couldn't afford to burn all bridges, so I buried the hatchet.
"Hey, can we talk?" I asked in a shallow voice.
"Sure, come in," he said, moving out of the way. I watched him walk grudgingly to a seat, hiding his face. He wasn't showing an angry face, but I could read that I had offended him.
Having seated ourselves in the living room, it could be marked between us that there was tension.
"Charles, I am so sorry," I started immediately. "I've been very well aware that I have not been the easiest person to get along with lately. I do not have any excuses, but I want you to know how much I appreciate all you've done for me."
