"You don't believe me, do you?" he asked, sitting back with a sigh.
"I do but it's just hard to imagine that you had a chance to get someone close enough to my father to deliver the killing blow but didn't. Given what he's done to you, would anyone blame you?"
My heart ached as I said those words, not because Damian was still probably going to pursue vengeance and wouldn't stop till my father was either locked behind bars or dead. I was hurt because I couldn't believe my father would do such a thing.
"If I wanted Gregory dead," Damian said, his voice a low whisper so others wouldn't eavesdrop on our conversation, "I'd have sent an assassin, not a spy. All I wanted was to get close enough and get some evidence against him that would help me get justice and take back what was rightfully mine."
I nodded, though a little sad. "Well, I wouldn't blame you even if you'd plotted to kill him. it's hard to imagine that my father would do this. He is a monster."
