MARIE
"What the hell is wrong? Why are you crying? What's happening?" Crystal asked, probably shocked at how I had started crying with Angelica in my arms.
I was crying profusely, with my baby looking helpless in my hands. I knew Crystal couldn't bear to see me cry; her greatest wish was to see me flourish and never shed a tear.
"What do I do? How do I live my life from here? Where do I go?" I asked through sobs. I had started hiccupping, making me speak funnily, but it was no time for laughter.
"I think the best thing we can do now is focus on your health and your baby's," Crystal said. She didn't claim to understand my pain because she couldn't, so she was careful with her words.
"Of what use is my health when my father has been shot? Who knows how much pain and anguish he's in?" I replied, hiccupping.
"I know! I understand your point. But just as you love your dad, there's a baby here who not only loves you but also depends on you for survival. You can't afford to forget that.
