I couldn’t help but rub my temples as I sat on the couch, staring at my phone, which had been conspicuously silent all morning. My hand unconsciously drifted to my belly, and the swell was a reminder of the life growing inside me. I sighed deeply,
“Crystal, I haven't heard from Monica or Jessie yet?” I called out, raising my voice just enough for her to hear me from the kitchen.
Crystal bustled in with a tray of fresh fruits. Her hair was tied back in a loose bun, and her hazel eyes sparkled with mischief as she approached me. “ really, but you know how pregnant women are. Maybe they're just caught up with the baby stuff or sleeping,” she replied, setting the tray on the coffee table.
I leaned back, a frown creasing my forehead. “It’s just strange, you know? They had promised to check in on me every morning, and today… nothing. Not even a ‘good morning’ text.”
