The number on Perseus' phone screen was unfamiliar.
"Hello, who's calling?"
"Perseus, it's me, your Uncle Randolph!" Randolph's familiar voice answered, but something was off in his tone—it was unusually somber.
"Uncle Randolph, why are you calling from a different number?" Perseus glanced again at the screen, feeling confused.
"There's no time to explain. Something's happened to your father," Randolph cut him off. "I couldn't reach him, but he sent me a message last night."
Perseus' heart sank. "What do you mean? What happened to him?"
He had found it odd when his father announced he was visiting a friend in another city. That was unusual on its own. And just as he suspected, something bad happened! But why had his father reached out to Randolph instead of him?
