The morning light was harsh. It filled the entire ward with a blinding, golden light.
Xavier stared with utter concern at Sarah, who sat on the hospital bed. "Work isn't important."
It seemed that Sarah mattered more to him than work.
Lily's hands rested on her thighs. She couldn't help but clench her fists and grab the hem of her shirt so tightly that her fingertips turned white. Her already sickly countenance worsened.
"Xavie—" Maryanne wanted to speak up.
However, Lily immediately grabbed Maryanne's hand and shook her head. "Let's go."
Lily wasn't good with confrontations and couldn't move around now. There was no telling if Xavier would involve the Devereux family if Maryanne started an argument and fought on Lily's behalf.
Plus, Xavier only ignored Lily's emergency calls because he kept Sarah company last night while Sarah was getting checked up. Wasn't that better than Lily's assumptions from yesterday, when she thought Xavier and Sarah were sleeping together?
