As Xavier walked past Sarah, he casually said, "Come with me."
Without hesitation, Sarah followed him.
The hallway outside the conference room was brightly lit, and Xavier's tall, broad-shouldered figure cut an imposing presence. His perfectly proportioned frame was the type that could make any woman swoon.
Just moments ago, he'd defended Sarah. Did that mean he actually cared? Sarah was moved and was no longer aggrieved.
In Xavier's office, Timothy held the door open as the former strode in, loosening his tie and sitting down at the long table.
"Xavier, I knew you—" Sarah followed, unable to hide her excitement as she spoke without thinking.
"This isn't your fault," he interrupted, unaware of her intentions. "If I hadn't wanted to teach Lily a lesson by having her go to you, I'd have rejected your resignation on the spot and avoided this mess entirely."
Sarah stopped mid-sentence, her face going blank, as though she'd been struck by lightning.
