Evelyn couldn't be bothered to respond to that remark.
Phoebe was either stupid or malicious. How could a housekeeper sit back and let Phoebe, the Locke family's goddaughter, do all the cooking for the family? It was ridiculous—unless Evelyn simply didn't want to work anymore.
While Evelyn silently grumbled, she heard Celeste's voice at the kitchen door. "Fifi, why don't you come to the living room and rest? I've seen you being busy in the kitchen since this morning."
Evelyn's hands paused as she washed the vegetables.
Evelyn had prepared breakfast herself. All Phoebe did was hand over a few plates and serve the food. Yet somehow, it now seemed as if Phoebe had been the one bustling around the kitchen all morning.
Feeling a bit disgruntled, Evelyn shot a glance at Phoebe. Evelyn caught her blinking a few times before she raised an arm, rubbing her eyes with her elbow.
Phoebe replied, "I'm fine, Mrs. Locke. I'm used to it, really. It doesn't tire me."
