Lillian's heart skipped a beat, and she blurted out, "No."
She and Luke were just friends, nothing more.
She could have talked to him about Esteban.
But she felt that if he brought up Esteban, he would feel very disappointed.
She didn't want to see sadness in his bright eyes.
Luke chuckled softly, his voice captivating, "That's good."
He moved closer.
Lillian's heart paused. Instinctively, she put her hand on Luke's shoulder and warned coldly, "Don't come any closer."
"What?"
Luke looked confused, his long fingertips brushing her face and grabbing the car door. He firmly shut the passenger door.
"The passenger door wasn't closed," he said.
Lillian's mind went blank, feeling utterly embarrassed.
Luke saw her flushed face and laughed, "I'm not a rogue."
Lillian quickly covered her face, her voice barely audible, "Just drive!"
How embarrassing. She thought Luke was trying something. She wasn't a teenager anymore; what was she thinking?
