Chapter 6 Chapter 6
I woke up the next morning and showered for school. I got out of the bathroom, got dressed and applied light makeup. I caught my hair in a messy bun and left my room.
When I entered the kitchen, my mom was over the stove cooking breakfast. She turned around when she heard me.
"Morning, honey." Mom smiled at me.
"Morning Mom." I answered, as I sat at the kitchen counter. A little while later, Tamara came into the kitchen.
"Morning everyone!" She greeted as she took a seat beside me.
"Morning." Mom and I answered. Mom came over to us and put a plate of toast, scrambled eggs and sausages in front of Tamara and I.
"Alright, I'm leaving for work right now. I have an early day at the office today, so Tamara you are riding with Jessica, okay?" Mom said as she turned back to the counter.
"Okay, Mom." Tamara said through the toast in her mouth. Mom turned around and glared at her.
"Tamara, what did I say about talking with food in your mouth?" Mom scold.
Tamara swallowed the food in her mouth before responding, "Sorry Mom." Mom nodded, wiped her hands in a kitchen rag and took up her bag from the counter.
"Okay girls, I'm leaving now. See you both later."
"Bye Mom." We both said as Mom left the kitchen. A few minutes later, we both finish eating and we left in my car.
I dropped Tamara at her school and then drove to my school. When I arrive, I park in the parking lot and got out. I looked at the time on my phone and saw that I still had ten minutes left before the bell rang. I didn't see my friends, I guess they were not here as yet. I went into the building and headed to my locker. I was just closing my locker, when I saw my friends approaching me.
"Hey guys!" I greeted as they reached me. They both greeted me and I walked with them to their lockers.
"How is practice coming on?" Dylan asked.
"The only thing I can tell you as a surety, is the songs that I have chosen. I'm still working on my dance moves." I replied.
"I'm sure you will perfect it soon." Amber assured.
"Yeah, I know you. I also want to see what you have so far." Dylan added. We had reached Amber's locker and she was now getting her books.
"You guys can come and watch me practice next week. Maybe Tuesday." I suggested.
"Sounds like a plan." Amber said as she closed her locker. We then both followed Dylan to his locker and then it was time to go to class.
We were in the cafeteria eating lunch and talking about random things, when all of a sudden Dylan nudge me in my side. I looked over at him with a puzzled expression.
"Bitch alert." He mumbled under his breath and indicated his head to his right. I followed his direction and saw Ramona walking over to our table.
After we saw Ramona yesterday, we told Dylan about it and pointed her out to him at lunch yesterday. We also ended up telling him about her when we were in preschool. Dylan did not know her before, because we met him when we were a freshman in high school. Ramona's heels clicked on the tiled floor as she approached us. Amber, whose back was facing her, turned around and noticed her too.
"Seriously, what does she want now?" Amber asked angrily. Dylan and I shrugged our shoulder. Ramona finally reached to our table and stopped.
"Hello Jessica." Ramona said my name as if it was a disease. "There was something that I forgot to mention yesterday."
"Ramona, we are not interested in what you have to say, so please leave so we can continue with our lunch." I said to her. She looked at me and gave me a look that could kill.
"Who do you think you are?" She demanded.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm Jessica." I said as if she was dumb. Dylan and Amber chuckled beside me. She fold her arms over her chest and I continued to ignore her.
"You know what? I have better things to do than talk to you losers anyway. So let me make this quick." She unfold her arms and began to smooth out her pink mini skirt. "Just to let you know, I'm in the dance competition as well. I saw your name when I went to sign up yesterday."
When she said that, I felt my mouth drop open with shock. Say what now? Ramona was going to be in the dance competition as well? I had forgotten that we had one thing in common when we were friends. She could dance as well. We would always dance together for fun.
Seeing my shocked expression, she smirked and continued. "I know you are not as good as me, so let the best person win." She turned to walk away from our table, but then she turned back around. "Just so you know, I'm planning on winning." With that said, she finally walked away.
"I can't believe that she is in the competition as well." Dylan said after she left.
"Me either." Amber whispered in disbelief.
"She must have heard about it when she moved back here and decided to enter." I speculated.
"I don't know how she heard about it; all I know is that I can't stand her!" Amber said annoyed.
"Look guys, I'm not going to let her get me down. I'm going to that competition and I plan on doing my best to win." I said.
Dylan grinned at me from ear to ear. "That's the spirit, Jessie!"
"Yeah, who cares if she is in the competition as well. You are way better than her anyways." Amber said smiling as well. Dylan nodded his head in agreement and I smiled at both of them.
My best friends have always tried to cheer me up when I was down and they always know what to say to me in times like these. I was so grateful for the both of them.
School was over and I had asked my friends to come over to my house so we could have a movie night. It has been a while since we had a movie night so I didn't stop for practice today. Amber, Dylan and I parked in my driveway and got out of our cars.
We entered my house and I closed the door behind us. My mom's car was not in the driveway, so I figured she was not here as yet. I went into the kitchen to make the popcorn, while Amber and Dylan selected the movies that we were watching. I placed the popcorn in the microwave and went over to the fridge and take out three sodas. The microwave dinged and I took out the bag of popcorn and pour it in a bowl.
Grabbing the bowl in one hand and the sodas in the other, I went back to the living room. I saw that they had chosen a comedy and I smiled. It was one of my favourites; Dumb and Dumber.
"Nice choice guys." I said as I hand them each a soda and sat down beside Amber on the couch. Dylan was at the other end beside Amber.
"We all love this movie, so I knew it was a right pick." Amber replied and I nodded. It was true, all of us liked this movie. I placed the bowl in Amber's lap so all of us could reach.
A hour and a belly full of laughter later, I heard the front door being opened and Tamara appeared in the living room.
"Hey guys. What are you watching?" She asked, as she sat in the arm chair putting her bag pack in her lap.
"We are watching Dumb and Dumber." I answered her. "Want to watch it with us?"
"Yep." she replied and went upstairs to put down her school bag. She then came back down and sat in the arm chair. We watched two other movies before my friends went home.
