Chapter 6 Office Mayhem
This was Vivian's first visit to the Swain Group office tower.
Throughout the journey, she made every effort to act like a naive and inexperienced country bumpkin, marveling at the sight of automatic glass doors to the point of entering and exiting several times in a row.
Fiona and Yolanda were embarrassed by her antics and urged her to stop. They even promised to grant any wish of hers if she behaved.
"Really? Thank you, Momma and sis, you're so good to Vivian!" Vivian played the fool, but secretly, she was already plotting how to make them duo bleed money.
She made a fuss about how beautiful Fiona's gemstone ring looked and how cute Yolanda's bag was, expressing a desire to have them for herself.
Of course, Fiona and Yolanda were unwilling to give up their items, as they were limited editions worth millions.
Yet, to shut Vivian up, they reluctantly handed over their valuables.
They only did it for show, planning to take everything back once they were done using Vivian. However, Vivian didn't give them a chance. She wore the gemstone ring and began scratching it against the hard marble wall while running around, acting like a blissful simpleton.
Fiona watched in heartache, suppressing the urge to scream and instead tried to reason with Vivian, "Vivian, dear, rings aren't for scratching on things. They're valuable. It's best to keep it hidden when you're wearing it."
Seeing Fiona's pained expression, Vivian felt a secret thrill. This was just the beginning!
At Fiona's persistent persuasion, Vivian finally concealed her hand – not in her pocket, but inside Yolanda's million-dollar, limited edition bag.
Fiona finally breathed a sigh of relief seeing Vivian quiet down. But soon, Yolanda discovered her bag was covered in irreparable cuts!
Her designer bag was ruined by Vivian, the simpleton, who had scratched it from the inside with the ring!
Yolanda was so furious, she felt like killing her!
To add insult to injury, as they passed through the office, they overheard many employees whispering, "Look, the lady next to the Madam must be the real Miss Swain, right? The one who visited us before must be the second Miss Swain."
"How beautiful the real Miss Swain is - much more so than the second Miss Swain. Such an exquisite temperament!"
"Yes, she stands there like a masterpiece, so beautiful! She totally outshines the second Miss Swain."
What the hell was this 'outshining'?! Upon hearing these comments, Yolanda wanted nothing more than to shut their mouths.
But when she turned to look, she had to admit Vivian was truly beautiful.
Her skin was so white and flawless, devoid of any visible pores even at this close distance. No eye or nose surgery, all natural!
Her jealousy was driving her mad. She was thinking once Vivian was of no use, she needs to find someone to ruin that face!
Vivian noticed Yolanda's malicious look.
They say past grudges shouldn't affect the next generation. Initially, she only wanted to teach Howard and Fiona a lesson, but it seemed Yolanda wasn't any better.
In that case, she couldn't be blamed for fighting fire with fire!
As soon as they entered Howard's office, Yolanda flew into a rage, pulling Vivian's hair and yelling, "You damn simpleton, how dare you ruin my bag! You're worth less than the damage you caused!"
Howard was startled, "Yolanda, I thought you were studying abroad? Why are you here? And why are you hitting your sister?"
"Fiona, what's going on...?" After Fiona had explained, "…and then she ruined both my ring and Yolanda's bag – it's not just Yolanda who's furious, I am too."
"Alright, alright, it's not that big of a deal." Howard had no interest in a woman's jewelry or bags.
He pulled out two documents straight from his drawer. "Tell them to stop fighting and bring Vivian to sign these two stock transfer agreements immediately." This was the most important matter at hand!
Only then did Fiona fetch Vivian.
Vivian had just had a fight with Yolanda. Although her face was scratched and a bit bruised, it was all minor. She would recover in a couple of days. But Yolanda, on the other hand, had it rough. Vivian had trained in combat and Taekwondo, even winning awards in competitions. When she fought back, she hit hard and aimed for hidden areas. Yolanda, with her limited wise, probably didn't even realize she'd been hit in the waist and underarms.
When Howard asked her to sign, she began to cry, saying she was in pain from being hit by her sister, while secretly glancing at the documents in front of her.
It turned out, Kaysen Benton, to arrange a wife for his vegetative grandson, had promised to give the granddaughter-in-law 8% of his Benton family shares. The Benton family was a top-tier family in Amorita, with assets spread across the country, and 8% of the shares were no small sum.
But it was clearly written on the share transfer agreement that the beneficiary was Vivian Swain!!
Howard had prepared another agreement. He asked Vivian, after receiving the shares, to immediately transfer the shares to him, Howard Swain.
Vivian sneered inwardly.
But she had come this far, and if she didn't sign this document and affix her thumbprint, she probably wouldn't be able to leave the Swain Group office tower today.
But if she could be tricked so easily, she wouldn't be Vivian Swain!
"Waaa, my sister hit me, sis has to apologize, if sis apologizes Vivian will write her own name."
"Yolanda, quickly apologize to your sister," Howard and Fiona both advised Yolanda to consider the bigger picture.
Yolanda had no choice but to apologize.
Vivian quickly forgave Yolanda, making the three onlookers think she really was a simpleton. One second before she was crying, but the next second she was fine.
Yolanda scornfully rolled her eyes, "Can you even write? Have you ever attended school? You simpleton!"
"Is Vivian a simpleton? What's a simpleton? Is it a compliment?" Vivian asked innocently.
Yolanda was extremely disdainful, "Yes, simpleton is a compliment. You are a simpleton!"
"Oh, sis complimented me, sis is so nice. Let's go, Vivian will write something to show sis." Vivian said with a smile and pulled Yolanda towards the desk at the other end of the office.
Howard had something else to discuss with Fiona, so he instructed his daughter, "Yolanda, teach your sister how to write properly. Make sure the agreement is properly signed."
"I got it!" Yolanda was impatient, "Such a simple task can be completed in a minute!"
Yolanda then started teaching Vivian how to write.
Vivian, chewing on her pen, asked, "Sis, how do you spell 'simpleton'? You just said Vivian is a simpleton, Vivian wants to learn this word."
Yolanda rolled her eyes and wrote down the word "simpleton".
Vivian asked again, "How do you write sis's name?"
Yolanda was impatient, but still wrote down "Yolanda".
Vivian was satisfied and secretly curled her lips in a smirk when Yolanda wasn't looking.
Meanwhile, Yolanda was playing with her phone, paying no attention to her.
When Vivian finished writing, she handed the agreement to Yolanda and said sweetly, "Sis, I've finished writing."
"Is it in the place I specified?"
"Yes, sis. Vivian is very obedient. Vivian likes sis."
Who needs this fool's affection! Yolanda was disgusted. She planned to put away the agreement and throw her out.
But when she picked up the agreement and looked at it, the place that needed a signature had written!
"Yolanda is a simpleton, a big simpleton, the world's number one simpleton, an invincible simpleton!"
"Have you lost your mind? I told you to sign your own name, why did you write this!" Yolanda shouted in anger.
"Waaa, sis is angry. Sis is a simpleton, the best simpleton. Sis taught Vivian. Sis said that simpleton is a compliment. Sis can't be mean to Vivian. Waaa, Mom, Dad, sis is mean to Vivian, sis is bad, punish sis!"
Vivian buzzed around Yolanda like a persistent fly, repeating the same phrase over and over again.
Yolanda was on the verge of exploding. "Zip it! Ahhh! You're making my ears bleed!"
In a spur of the moment, she tore apart the contract in her hands... That was the original contract, personally signed by Kaysen Benton himself. Unique and irreplaceable. Once torn, it was gone forever.
Howard was seething with anger, as he crouched on the ground, picking up the fragments of the agreement, his hands were shaking. He even berated Yolanda, who ended up in tears.
"It's gone, all of it," Howard moaned, looking like a ghost of himself.
Fiona was both heartbroken and furious, but a sliver of hope remained. "Perhaps we could ask Kaysen for another copy?"
"You're oversimplifying things! Kaysen Benton signed this contract under the assumption that the Swain family's young miss was of sound mind. With Vivian now acting the fool, do you think Kaysen will be as generous? He might not give us anything! Yolanda Swain, how dare you cry? Get out of my sight!"
"Howard! Why are you blaming our daughter? This wouldn't have happened if Vivian hadn't insulted her in the contract!"
"Vivian is a simpleton, why are you getting into a spat with a simpleton? Who told your darling daughter to teach a simpleton that simpleton is a compliment?"
"What are you implying? Are you defending this simpleton?!"
Suddenly, Howard and Fiona were in a heated argument, with Yolanda quickly dragged into the fray. The family was at loggerheads, with a computer even getting smashed in the commotion.
Meanwhile, Vivian was perched on the couch, intermittently enjoying a lollipop.
Ah, it was unbelievably sweet!
…
At the base of the Swain Group office tower.
Brevard was on a call with Ethan, "Yes, it's been over an hour. But I can't just barge in, it's the Swain's tower, not my house."
"Ah... someone's coming out, and there's one extra. If I'm not mistaken, it should be her step-sister, Yolanda."
"Hold on..." Brevard hurriedly lowered his car window, fearing he might have mistaken the identity.
"What's the matter, don't leave me hanging!" Ethan prodded from the other end of the line when Brevard went silent.
"Heh," Brevard chuckled, " Interesting, truly Interesting! Ethan, besides the Swains, guess who else I spotted at the entrance of the Swain tower? You'll never see it coming."
