Sophia, with a voice as soothing as a lullaby, reached out to touch Ethan's wounded brow.
Ethan paused when he noticed Vivian standing at the doorway, his instincts compelling him to brush her hand aside. His heart skipped a beat, and he let Sophia's hand continue.
Sophia tenderly stroked Ethan's injury, her eyes brimming with concern. "Does it still hurt? You've got quite a cut there."
"No, it doesn't," Ethan replied, rubbing his forehead before sitting up.
He had intended to ignore Vivian, but her presence was like a magnet, pulling his gaze towards her.
Realizing his attention was drawn to her, Ethan's face turned stern. He turned to Brevard, "Why did you bring her?"
Brevard could barely hide his amusement. "She claimed she hit you last night and didn't see you this morning. She was worried you might be dead and wanted to ensure you were still among the living."
"Really?" Ethan glanced back at Vivian.
Vivian showed not a shred of worry or guilt.
