Darren gazed at the beautiful cupcakes in his hand, feeling a swirl of emotions. It was the first time in his life that someone had given him desserts. And since Christina had offered these cupcakes as a gesture of gratitude, it was clear that she was genuinely thankful to him.
“Daz! Why do you look so dazed?” Dylan’s voice rang out as he entered the underground parking lot. “I told the workers to work overnight. Your place will be ready by the end of the weekend. Aren’t I awesome?”
Dylan was fishing for compliments from his best friend, knowing well that compliments were a rare luxury coming from Darren. Darren wasn’t one to criticize people often, but he wasn’t generous with praise either.
