Idris hummed in agreement, his tone nonchalant. "Just do it by the book."
"Of course, of course. Definitely." The policeman nodded over and over.
Lucas was on my mind, and as I watched the suspects be carted off, I found myself running to where their truck had been parked.
The truck was in a remote spot, shrouded in darkness due to the broken streetlights. It was empty. I circled it but found no sign of Lucas.
They had clearly brought him there earlier, so where had he vanished?
Had he managed to sneak away while we were distracted earlier? The thought spurred me to search around.
