Tears slid down Sweety's cheeks in silence. Her gaze fixed on them with unspoken bitterness.
I stood by, lips pressed tightly together, witnessing the messy scene. I went over to Emily, helped her to her feet, and whispered a request to a policewoman to grab some medicine.
Gregory had a case to crack, so he ushered Emily into the interrogation room to piece together her recent movements and interactions.
Maybe it was the shock of the slap, but Sweety seemed to regain a shred of composure. However, the loathing in her eyes only grew more intense. Cradling her child's remains, she prepared to leave without a word.
Rebecca and Inch had planned to say they were sorry. Before they could get a word out, Sweety's icy shout had cut through the air, "Just go away! Your 'sorry' is nothing but empty words. My child is gone. If you really mean it, why don't you sacrifice your own kids for mine? Would you do that?" Her words had hit Rebecca and Inch like a slap, and they had stumbled back.
