When she caught my eye, she smiled softly, the chill from earlier gone. She looked at me like we were old pals and said, "Yvette, welcome home."
I grinned at her, thinking how everyone else always went on about how long it had been. She was the only one to say, "Yvette, welcome home."
"It’s been a while, huh? How's life treating you?" I asked. Just a couple of sentences in, and I already felt lighter.
She gave a little shrug, peering out at the restaurant. "You saw it. I’m not sure if it's good or bad. What about you? Doing okay?"
I gave a small smile. "Might get better with time."
She looked down, smiling softly, her voice steady and sure, "It will get better."
We held each other's gaze, and I did not dive into her business with Liam or what went down today. I knew things were not as Sweety had spun them, though. Emily had moved past a guy like Liam.
