Yara clamped her mouth shut, her eyes locked on me and Lucas with an icy glare.
After what felt like forever, she spun on her heel, her face a mask of fury, and stormed out.
I turned back to Lucas, who was the picture of serenity across the table. I could not hold back. "You're not worried Kenneth will come after you for giving Yara the cold shoulder?"
Lucas just dipped his head, his face unreadable. "He's got bigger problems than me right now."
I blinked, not catching on. "What do you mean?"
He pushed some food onto my plate, his voice even. "Kenneth's latest shipment to the border got nabbed by the cops three days ago. They took his crew, too."
A jolt of worry shot through me. Gregory's crew must have been tightening their grip on the border. That was a win for me.
I hesitated, then ventured, "It was just one shipment. Kenneth was not going to be knocked off balance by that, right?"
