My father's stern, unyielding voice and glare constantly confronted me, no matter how hard I tried to divert my attention. Knowing him well enough, I knew that when Governor Pendragon said no, he would stand by it, regardless of the threat of a gun to his temple. This was a situation I couldn't handle at the moment; to be honest, I didn't want to stand against Father.
I wished he could move past old grudges and accept that Minerva was my mate. Holding onto the feud their family had with the Silver Line was unnecessary. Even if I wanted to obey Father, I couldn't because breaking off a union, especially after I'd marked Minerva, was painful.
