“Lord Charles,” Alicia said coldly, “I think since we're about to get divorced, there’s no need for this charade, right?”
As she spoke, Alicia picked up the card from the bed, carefully examining it. Charles was about to explain, thinking she would accept it.
“This card has 300...” he began, but Alicia interrupted him before he could finish.
“Is this just because of pressure from Lady Cartie? If that’s the case, then I don’t need it. We won’t be together for much longer anyway,” she said, before shoving the card back into Charles’s pocket.
Charles took the card out of his pocket again and harshly tossed it back onto the bed.
“If you don’t want it, just destroy it. I don’t deal in returns,” he said angrily, before storming out of Alicia’s room. He went to his own room, collapsed onto the bed, and rubbed his temples in frustration.
