Chapter 39: The Pain in Her Body
The distance from the gate of the villa to Charles' house was only a few steps, yet in those short minutes, Charles continuously questioned Alicia, asking if there was something going on between her and Townsend. Why was she behaving like this?
No matter how many times Charles asked, Alicia remained silent. Finally, Charles, in a fit of frustration, grabbed the jacket Townsend had draped over Alicia’s shoulders and threw it on the ground.
Alicia stared at him in disbelief. She had tolerated his earlier outbursts, but now, throwing Townsend's jacket—something given to her for warmth—on the ground was an act of blatant disrespect. She couldn’t let that go.
As she bent down to pick it up, Charles’ harsh words cut through the air.
"I only allow my things in this house. Trash like that jacket doesn’t belong here."
Alicia sighed in exasperation. After everything that had happened today, she was exhausted. All she wanted was to return to her bed and sleep.
